Tune in to Weekend Today over the next nine weeks as David Whitehill discovers some of the highlights of Peru with Scenic.
Join David as he visits colonial Lima’s downtown home to the Presidential Palace, cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, Metropolitan City Hall and the Santo Domingo church and monastery. Further south David explores the fascinating ruins of Pachacamac before embarking on a luxury Amazon cruise to spot wildlife, including a trip to the Manatee Rescue Centre, and a visit to a local village.
Back on dry land David heads east to the town of Chinchero where he learns all about traditional weaving techniques before reaching the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the town of Pisac to tour its impressive archeological site on the mountain top. Next stop is World Heritage-listed Machu Picchu – one of the new Seven Wonders of the World – and then onto the city of Cuzco for a tour of the city including the Sacsayhuaman fortress.
The last stop on David’s Peruvian adventure is the city Arequipa where he discovers the impressive Santa Catalina convent, home to a select group of nuns residing there, followed by a trip to the Cross of the Condor; the best location to admire Colca Canyon and the flight of the majestic condor.
Weekend Today is on Saturday 28 May, 4, 11, 18, 25 June and 2, 9,16 and 23 July on Channel 9 at 9.50am (AEST).
