SeaLink Holidays have launched a new Escorted Tour, the 9 day/ 8 night Highlights of South Australia departing March 24th, 2017. The tour encompasses the natural wonders of Kangaroo Island, a Murray River cruise aboard paddlewheeler PS Murray Princess and a tour of world renowned wine regions the Barossa and Clare Valley.
The tour will be escorted by well-known South Australian, Shirley Tamm, who has over 35 years’ experience in the travel industry.

Day one begins with a trip via the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis to board SeaLink’s Ferry to Kangaroo Island. After re-boarding the coach, visit Frenchman’s Rock; the historic Maritime and Folk Museum; Cape Willoughby Lighthouse and Clifford’s Honey Farm – home to the rare Ligurian honey bees and their famous honey ice-cream! Lunch will be enjoyed overlooking the ocean at Zest and Thyme Café.
Accommodation for the next three nights is at Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn, right on the esplanade in Kingscote, with all rooms featuring a sea view.
Day two includes a stop at Seal Bay Conservation Park for a guided walk through a colony of wild Australian Sea-lions. Then marvel at the spectacular Raptor Domain, Birds of Prey show before visiting South Australia’s first sheep dairy and cheese factory, Island Pure Sheep Dairy. Lunch is at the picturesque Vivonne Bay Lodge followed by wine tasting at Bay of Shoals Winery.
Experience the natural rugged beauty of Flinders Chase National Park and nature’s breath-taking creations – Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch on day three. Fall in love with the Long-Nosed Fur Seal colony and enjoy a gourmet lunch at the Andermel Marron Farm. Spend the afternoon learning about the marron farm and sampling their Two Wheeler Creek Wines and bush tucker.
On Day four sail back to the mainland and travel by coach to Mannum enjoying a leisurely stop at Victor Harbor and Horseshoe Bay to see stunning coastal views. Arrive in the historic town of Mannum and board the PS Murray Princess for a four-night cruise.
Over the next four days’ sit back and relax while enjoying the amazing views and sunsets as the Murray Princess cruises upstream through one of 13 locks to Blanchetown, past towering limestone cliffs and along riverbanks lined with mallee scrub and red gum forests.
Enjoy an on-shore excursion to Swan Reach including a fascinating guided walk and visit to its historic museum. Learn about Aboriginal history at the sacred Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve and fall in love with the animals at a Native Wildlife Shelter followed by a fun and very Australian Woolshed Show.
Nature and wildlife lovers can get up close to the abundant river bird life including Swans, Swamp Hens and Wood Ducks onboard the ‘Dragon-Fly’ flat-bottomed boat, spot nocturnal wildlife on the riverbanks and join a guided nature walk and learn about the thriving ecology of the river.
Wine lovers will indulge with a vineyard tour and cellar door tastings at Burk Salter Boutique Winery, while with food a highlight of the cruise, foodies will certainly enjoy the spectacular Captain’s dinner and dance and delight in the Aussie-style campfire barbecue dinner on the river bank.
Day eight sees guests disembark the Murray Princess and head to the Barossa, Australia’s richest and best known wine region for some tastings and morning tea at the famous Jacobs Creek Visitor Centre. Then travel to Tanunda for a look around this historic town before heading to Kapunda and beautiful Clare Valley for an overnight stay at the Clare Country Club.
The final day sees a visit to the famous Georgian style Martindale Hall before heading to the historic Sevenhill Cellars, South Australia’s first winery established in the Clare Valley. Finally, explore the Clare Township before boarding the coach and weaving past vineyards and wineries back to Adelaide.
