First “Sphere-class” ship is the line’s biggest ever vessel, accommodating over 4,000 guests.
Princess Cruises has just revealed details of its newest vessel, which is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and is on schedule to debut early in 2024.
Bringing the venerable Sun Princess name back into operation, the newbuild incorporates cutting-edge design including a gigantic integrated architectural sphere which forms the shape of the ship’s nine-storey Atrium.
Princess Cruises President, John Padgett, told Cruise Weekly the new ship platform aimed to embrace Princess’ iconic heritage while also forging an innovative future-looking guest experience.
“It’s 20% bigger than our biggest ship, yet it can still transit the Panama Canal…this is a completely unique platform for the Princess brand only, that is built so we can maintain our global cruising business model, moving our guests around the world wherever they like to go,” he said.
With a total of 2,157 staterooms, the ship will feature a new level of suite accommodations called the Signature Collection with its own restaurant, lounge and sun deck, as well as a huge array of dining and entertainment options including The Dome, a multi-level covered deck enclosed in glass with an indoor/outdoor pool which becomes an entertainment stage at night.
Sun Princess will also feature the exclusive Princess Medallion, further enhancing the line’s leadership position in delivering “exceptional personalised experiences at unmatched scale,” Padgett said.
