The Safari Legacy will debut
next year and offer a different
style of cruising in Alaska,
Oregon and Washington.
INNERSEA Discoveries and American Safari
Cruises have announced that the soon-tolaunch
Safari Legacy will introduce ‘Heritage
Adventures’ to the company’s “un-cruise”
program.
In contrast to the line’s current itineraries,
which spend maximum time in the wilderness
instead of visiting ports, the 88-passenger
Safari Legacy will focus on the historic towns
of southeast Alaska and along the Columbia
and Snake rivers.
Guided tours, museums and historical sites
will be included in the itineraries, providing a
chance to meet local people and historians.
Onboard each sailing, the ‘Living History’
program combines presentations, guest
speakers and character re-enactments,
coordinated by onboard ‘Legacy Leaders’ who
bring to life the gold rush trail in Alaska and
the expeditions of explorers Meriwether
Lewis and William Clark.
Formerly Cruise West’s Spirit of ’98, the
refurbished 88-passenger Safari Legacy, a
replica Victorian steamer, will start its inaugural
season with two 11-night cruises between
Seattle (Washington) and Juneau (Alaska),
departing 11 August and 22 August 2013.
Rates for the ‘Gold Rush Legacy’ voyages
start at US$7,895 per person twin-share.
From September to November and March to
May, the ship will sail weeklong cruises on the
Columbia and Snake rivers, roundtrip from
Portland, Oregon.
These ‘Legacy of Discovery’ cruises will visit
the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls,
Richland, Walla Walla, Washington wine
country, The Dalles and Astoria.
Highlights include transiting eight locks and
a tour of the Bonneville Dam Visitor Center, a
jet boat ride into Hells Canyon, and a private
wine-tasting.
Rates start at US$3,195pp twin-share.
In summer 2014, the ships returns to Alaska
for a full season of seven-night cruises
between Juneau and Ketchikan.
Fares include entry fees to museums and
national parks, all onboard meals, fine wine,
spirits and microbrews, and a complimentary
massage.
