AmaWaterways and APT have
released wildlife tours of Africa
which include cruises down
Botswana’s Chobe River.
A NEW option in river cruising this year is a
series of adventurous African safari voyages,
combining game drives and short cruises.
From June 2012, AmaWaterways and its
Australian partner APT will explore South
Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania, with the
opportunity to embark on the Zambezi Queen,
a 28-passenger vessel specifically designed for
sightseeing safaris.
A highlight of the experience is water-based
game viewing at Chobe National Park where
passengers can get close to wildlife along the
riverbanks.
AmaWaterways’ safari cruise options include
the 16-day ‘Stars of Africa’, the 16-day ‘African
Sunsets’ and the 19-day ‘Golden Trails of
Africa’, featuring morning and afternoon game
drives, beach picnics and wine tours.
The ‘Stars of Africa’ trip begins in Cape Town,
followed by three nights at a game lodge, and
a three-night cruise on the Chobe River, with
morning and afternooon safari drives on land
and water.
Passengers will also visit Victoria Falls,
museums and villages, and choose from a wide
range of shore excursions.
APT is marketing the safari cruise-holidays to
Australians through its inaugural Africa
brochure, which also features luxury camps,
rail journeys and ‘special encounters’ with
Masai and Zulu people.
The 19-day ‘South Africa Highlights and
Zambezi Queen River Safari’ itinerary departs 1
April 2012.
Each group is limited to 28 people and safari
four-wheel-drives have a maximum eight
passengers.
APT’s Freedom of Choice Touring has also
been applied to seven locations; for example,
at Victoria Falls, options include a walking tour,
helicopter ride, elephant-back safari or ‘tiger
fishing’.
Among the list of 15 ‘APT exclusive’
experiences are viewing Mt Kilimanjaro at
sunset with sundowner drinks and outdoor
Boma fireside dining at a private game lodge.
APT’s general manager of marketing, Debra
Fox, said the company’s expansion into Africa
was driven primarily by its past customers who
had enjoyed APT’s holiday style in Australia
and overseas.
“We have taken care to ensure our Africa
adventures meet their discerning
expectations,” she said.
