Explore two of Asia’s biggest, brightest and most historic cities and take a tour to Japan’s Mt Fuji on a new fly-cruise-and-stay holiday, centred on a cruise aboard Celebrity Millennium.
The seven-night cruise begins in Shanghai and ends in Tokyo (Yokohama). The holiday later this year, named ‘Shanghai, Tokyo & Mt Fuji Discovery’ lasts 11 nights and is exclusive to Worldwide Cruise Centres (worldwidecruisecentres.com.au).
Including flights from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide to Shanghai and return flights from Tokyo, ‘Shanghai, Tokyo & Mt Fuji Discovery’ costs from just $3599, twin-share per person.
The holiday departs Australia on 7 October 2016 and is valid for sale until 31 May 2016, unless sold out beforehand.
Shanghai and Tokyo are two of the world’s greatest and most populous cities, renowned for shopping, nightlife and culture. ‘Shanghai, Tokyo & Mt Fuji Discovery’ begins with a flight to China’s Shanghai, where you’ll be transferred from the airport to a four-star hotel in the city four two nights, with breakfast on both mornings.
Then set off on an included tour of Shanghai. First stop is Yu Yuan Garden, a classic creation of the Ming Dynasty, and Shanghai Old Street, dating from the Qing Dynasty. The tour stops at the Bund, a colonial-era street with neoclassical and art deco architecture on Shanghai’s waterfront, site of the international Architecture Exhibition. A visit to the Shanghai Museum of Ancient Chinese Art reveals a collection of more than 120,000 precious and rare works.
After lunch, drive along the former French Concession and visit the Jade Buddha Temple with its priceless jade statues from Burma. The last stop, Xin Tian Di, is a stylish nightlife district with many boutiques, pubs and restaurants.
Now it’s time to board magnificent Celebrity Millennium. A full week at sea – seven nights – gives time to explore the ship, 294 metres long and filled with fun and wonders, from world-class restaurants to Broadway-style shows and amenities that rival the grandest hotels on land. All shipboard main meals (excluding specialty restaurants) are included.
Sailing north, Celebrity Millennium docks in Busan, South Korea’s second-biggest city, known for mountains and beaches, hot springs and seafood. After a morning here, the ship enters Japanese seas and docks in Otaru, facing Ishikari Bay. A great canal, built in 1923 and lined with gaslight street lamps and a stone-paved promenade, runs through the city.
Next, Hakodate, a fine city known for its Blue Moon cruise, a wonderful bay exploration. Finally, the most famous Japanese port city of them all, Yokohama on Tokyo Bay. Awesome Tokyo is within easy reach and that’s where you’ll head, transferring to a four-star hotel in Japan’s capital for a two-night stay.
Now for a Japanese highlight: a Mt Fuji and Hakone tour. Start out with a drive through scenic countryside to Mt Fuji, one of Japan’s must-see sights. From Mt Fuji 5th station, enjoy a Japanese-style lunch before being driven on to Hakone, a popular hot-springs resort. Take a cruise on scenic Lake Ashi and enjoy the aerial cableway to Mt Komagatake. After a brief stop at Hotel Kowaki in Hakone the tour returns to Tokyo and finishes at Shinjuku or Ginza area, both fabulous glittering sections of this glorious city.
Take in Tokyo’s great neon displays before a night’s rest and perhaps some final shopping. Next, its time to fly back to Australia!
