Private sector investors and the Costa Rican
Government are joining forces in an attempt to
arrest falling visit numbers by cruise ships.
Figures reported by local media show arrivals
have nearly halved in the last two years alone.
Local authorities are blaming competition
from neighbouring countries, with business
leaders identifying procedural improvements
as well as safety upgrades to the country’s
ports as essential to attracting more vessels.
