A new, discounted package offering a week-long cruise on the holy Ganges River plus six nights’ accommodation at some of Oberoi’s luxury hotels across India has been released by Active Travel, an Australian travel agency specialising in Asian river cruising.
Available in August or September, 2015, the combo deal offers a seven-night, all-inclusive cruise with Assam Bengal Navigation on the Ganges or Hooghly Rivers and six nights in a range of Oberoi luxury hotels across India from US$2133 per person, twin-share. The package price includes Oberoi room tariffs of less than half price for stays until September 30, 2015.
The package includes all onboard meals, guided shore tours and transfers for the river cruise while accommodation at one of Oberoi’s Indian properties includes breakfast, yoga classes and a 25 per cent discount on spa treatments.
Direct flights from Australia to Delhi with Air India are extra and can be booked through Active Travel, with Air India also offering low-cost, add-on fares for domestic routes within India from just $25 one way, allowing travellers to stay at different Oberoi hotels of their choice across India. Oberoi’s deluxe hotels are located in Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra, Shimla and Kerala.
The accommodation with India’s premier hotel group can be combined with one of three, seven-night Indian river cruises offered by Assam Bengal Navigation and its deluxe, colonial-style river vessels. One is a journey along the sacred Ganges River from Varanasi to Patna from August 28, 2015, aboard the 44-passenger, RV Rajmahal. One of the world’s oldest cities and the heart of the Hindu world, Varanasi attracts crowds of pilgrims who wash away their sins at the city’s famous bathing ghats which line the Ganges.
The other two cruises, from Kolkata to Jangipur, along the lower Ganges tributary of the Hooghly River, depart on August 20 and September 17 aboard the 20-passenger RV Sukapha, with the river lined by ornate palaces and temples, untouched villages, colourful markets, mustard fields and mango orchards. Tours ashore include rickshaw rides through the countryside.
On both vessels, Indian and western cuisine is offered while a traditional afternoon tea is served on deck each day.
