CROISIEUROPE’S latest flagship, MS Gérard
Schmitter, was evacuated on the weekend
after an electrical fire in the engine room,
according to German news website Der Westen.
The ship, sailing along the Rhine from
Amsterdam to Strasbourg with 154 passengers
onboard, caught fire at about 9pm Saturday as
it arrived at Krefeld.
One woman was treated for shock and a
crewmember suffered a minor injury.
The rest of the mainly French passengers
were taken to a local restaurant but returned
to the vessel at 10.30pm.
The Gerard Schmitter, which was launched in
April, had been in operation for two months.
