Then sail to the frontier town of Juneau and Hubbard Glacier – largest tidewater glacier on the North American continent, with dramatic, sparkling scenery on every side. From the old Russian settlement of Sitka you’ll sail to Victoria, stately capital of British Columbia on Vancouver Island.
Aboard ship meanwhile, ms Amsterdam’s world-class spa and fitness centre is always popular. Maybe catch a show in The Queen’s Show Lounge. Choose between continental cuisine, vegetarian and low-carb options in a five-course menu in La Fontaine Dining Room.
Disembarking back in Seattle, the Emerald City of the US Pacific Northwest, you’ve two nights in a four-star hotel to take it easy. Stroll the waterfront, visit the Space Needle, sample a local microbrew, a glass of Washington wine or a cup of world-famous local coffee. Then, transfer to the other side of the border for a three-night stay in the gracious Canadian city of Vancouver.
In Vancouver, you’ll probably stay in the Fairmont Waterfront hotel. Included Vancouver city sightseeing takes in downtown, Chinatown and other highlights like Gastown and Stanley Park. The following day, a six-hour sightseeing tour takes you around the city’s magnificent North Shore and includes Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain, known for its Skyride to the Peak of Vancouver.
Now for the big, 16-night cruise. Embarking on Celebrity Millennium, set sail for Asia. An initial nine nights at sea includes a crossing of the International Date Line and gives time to totally take it easy and explore the ship, 294 metres long and filled with fun and wonders – from world-class restaurants to Broadway-style shows and amenities that rival the grandest hotels on land. The AquaSpa is one of the most luxurious spas afloat. Other touches include an ice-topped Martini Bar, Café al Bacio & Gelateria, a Cellar Masters Wine Bar, and fine dining choices every evening.
All shipboard main meals (excluding specialty restaurants) are included. First port of call is Petropavlovsk, capital of Russia’s isolated Kamchatka, a 1250-kilometre-long peninsula separating the Pacific from the Sea of Okhotsk. Into Japanese waters now and Otaru Ko, known for delicious seafood sushi.
On to historic Hakodate, where the renowned Blue Moon Cruise traverses the scenic bay, before docking in the most famous Japanese port city of them all, Yokohama on Tokyo Bay, second-biggest city in Japan after Tokyo itself.
Finally, Tokyo, an impressive blend of ancient and modern that wows visitors: dazzling neon signage, traditional culture, skyscrapers and venerable temples. The Japanese capital is all yours to explore and enjoy, with two nights in a four-star hotel before jetting back home to Australia.
