On all of Hurtigruten’s coastal voyages passengers can add a few extra nights, before or after their journey, to get more out of their holiday with their pre/post programmes. They can see breathtaking fjords, explore the steep mountain landscape or take an extraordinary train journey. And new for 2015, Hurtigruten have introduced two winter pre/post programmes, the Overnight Husky Tour and Overnight Snowmobile Tour.
Overnight Husky Tour
The Overnight Husky Tour, available pre or post cruise, starts at the guest’s hotel in Kirkenes, followed by a transfer to the Husky farm where the team gets ready for the 30 kilometre long trip, following part of the same tracks as the famous Finnmark´s dog race, to their wilderness camp, Namdalen Wilderness Lodge. In the evening guests can enjoy a king crab meal or visit the sauna and take a relaxing wilderness shower, all surrounded by the silence of nature.
Early next morning, after a cosy night’s sleep, guests can feed their huskies and after the dogs have had their breakfast, guests can enjoy their own breakfast. The Husky team will then be ready for the return trip which ends at the Kirkenes Snowhotel, constructed entirely from snow and ice each year. On arrival, lunch is served at the Gabba Restaurant, and then guests will be transferred back to their hotel in Kirkenes.
The Overnight Husky Tour costs an additional $2454 per person, twin share.
Overnight Snowmobile Tour
Take a thrilling snowmobile safari to a cabin in the wilderness on this unforgettable trip from Kirkenes, available pre or post tour. After a quick trip to the Kirkenes Snow Hotel guests leave shortly after lunch and follow the route along a frozen fjord. They’ll travel through virgin woods towards the remote Pasvik Valley where their destination, Gjøken, awaits. When the daylight starts to get darker, guests will arrive at their cabins, a warm and cosy home for the night. In the evening, enjoy dinner, prepared with local ingredients or visit the sauna, that is heated by wood, or if you are brave you can try “snow-swimming”.
After breakfast guests continue their snowmobile tour along the Russian border. The tour ends at Kirkenes Snow Hotel, where lunch is served at the Gabba Restaurant, and then guests will be transferred back to their hotel in Kirkenes.
The Overnight Snowmobile Tour costs an additional $2,660 per person, twin share.
