CUNARD’S QUEEN MARY 2 HAS FAILED A VOLUNTARY
health inspection, which was conducted by
US Centres for Disease Control inspectors
whilst she was docked in New York on 10
June.
According to reports, inspectors marked
QM2 84 out of 100 (anything less than 86 is
a fail), which is in stark contrast from her
past scores of 95 and above.
The reasons for the failure, as noted by
inspectors, included filthy Minnows splash
pool water and numerous food and beverage
safety violations such as soiled beer lines,
cockroaches in a food storage area and food
and bar utensils stored alongside used pool
towels and maintenance tools.
Responding to the CDC’s report Cunard
said that the issues were confined to a small
section of QM2, and that all the issues had
now been addressed and corrected.
Cunard also said that it had redefined
some crew roles to establish accountability,
and has also stepped up crew training to
avoid any similar incidences in the future.
