Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Elizabeth, made her maiden call yesterday, Monday March 31, at Halong Bay in Vietnam. Noted for its spectacular array of craggy islands and sheer rock pillars, the Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous as a James Bond film location.
Queen Elizabeth is two thirds of her way around the globe on her annual Round World Voyage, after leaving Southampton on January 10, 2014 and having already sailed to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, San Francisco, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, including visits to Sydney, Brisbane and the Whitsunday Islands. The 2000 passenger ship which was named by Her Majesty The Queen in 2010, arrived in Halong Bay after an overnight stay in Hong Kong. Her itinerary takes her on to Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Dubai, and via the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean, arriving back to the Southampton on May 9, after 118 nights away.
