Scenic and Godmother, Australian author Kathy Lette, christened next-generation Scenic Space-Ship Scenic Jasper at a special ceremony for media and travel industry leaders from Australia, New Zealand and North America in the Austrian capital Vienna today (Tuesday 21 April).
The eleventh of the renowned Scenic Space-Ship fleet and the newest to be sailing the waterways of Europe, the 85-cabin Scenic Jasper features a heated vitality pool for guests to enjoy on the panoramic Sun Deck plus the largest suites on the rivers with the ultimate in private balcony accommodation – the 44m2 Royal Panorama Suites and the opulent Royal Suite which boasts 33m2 of space.
Scenic Founder and Chairman Glen Moroney, as well as representatives from the specialist river cruise shipyard Den Breejen and Austrian dignitaries and tourism officials all attended the event.
Kathy Lette christened Scenic Jasper with her signature brand of humour plus the customary breaking of a Champagne bottle over the bow of the ship as she officially named the ship. During the Godmother speech, Kathy said: “Herewith I christen you in the name of Scenic Jasper. I wish you, your passengers and crew always enough water beneath your keel. I wish you always a good journey.”
Glen Moroney commented: ‘We are proud of the innovations we have made on Scenic Jasper, we’ve taken what was already an exceptional design and are now able to offer our guests a real heightened sense of luxury the largest suites on Europe’s rivers.”
Talking about her role of Godmother Kathy added: “I was honoured to be asked to be godmother to the stunning Scenic Jasper. Not only is river cruising the best way to see Europe – no sat nav malfunctions, no orbital ring roads, no traffic jams or cancelled trains, but this sleek new cruise ship is so luxurious it should be renamed HMS Hedonism. I’m also thrilled to unveil my leopard print skin mini-skirted figure head. Yes, I finally have prowess. Plus I can now say that I have a really big bust.”
Scenic Jasper is the first of two Scenic Space-Ships to be launched this year, Scenic Opal will also be joining the fleet this season bringing the total to 12 – including boutique small ship, Scenic Tsar, which exclusively sails in Russia. Scenic has the newest fleet of ships to sail the European rivers with a further two currently being built for 2016; Scenic Amber which will sail the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers and Scenic Azure which will launch on Portugal’s Douro River.
