Whitsundays-bound adventurers seeking a bareboating holiday in Queensland’s sailing paradise now have more vessels to choose from with Whitsunday Rent a Yacht (WRAY) adding two sailing catamarans to its fleet.
WRAY sales and marketing manager, Joscelyn O’Keefe, said both sailing catamarans – a Leopard 38 and a Seawind 1160 – had outstanding attributes which would appeal to a variety of charterers.
“The Leopard 38 answers the demand for a four-cabin vessel and the Seawind 1160 brings the outdoors in with great liveability,” she said.
“Both vessels suit the simple cruising grounds of the Whitsundays. Sailing here is safe because of calm seas and light winds. Also, because the weather is pristine almost all year, sailing in the Whitsundays is easy and pleasurable.”
Savvy charterers holiday at home
“Sailing catamarans are perfect for our region because they have vast expanses of outdoor living spaces so charterers can enjoy the Whitsundays-on-the-water experience from the comfort of their vessel.”
The typical WRAY charterer had evolved in the past five years as savvy holidaymakers increasingly used the internet and social media to research holidays options, she said.
“There has also been a significant rise in enquiries from the novice charter market and our customers now range in age from 18 to 80. A typical charterer chooses a vessel online and comes prepared for a skipper-yourself holiday, knowing we provide a pre-departure briefing and support throughout their charter.
“A Whitsundays charter holiday is also considered more achievable than ever. A nightly rate – which includes transport, accommodation and access to the islands – is affordable when split between 10 people.”
There had been a significant peak in demand from the domestic market in the past two or three years as more Australians, wary of unrest in trouble hot spots around the world, chose a tropical holiday at home, she said.
